Sansamp PBDDI, VT bass or Para Driver

I wish it were that simple but it's not. To my hearing, even with the bass and treble cut, there is still a bit of a mid scoop occurring with the BDDI, which can't be compensated for without a mid control.

That's one of the reasons why I have a VT Bass on order. ;) :hyper:

IME, only if you boost either the highs, lows or presence, the mid scoop will come into play. I don't really use it as an additional EQ, except one channel I have set for slap.

Just got a VT bass here in the UK (sent over from the U.S as so hard to get here). Can someone tell me if mine might be faulty (?)...seems to throw out a hell of a lot of feedback on the higher settings? wiyth the character past midday and the drive up? Compared to my BDDI it seems a wildly different beast and takes lots more 'playing with' to get the sound you're after...or is it just me? I was real lookin forward to this pedal too but not sure at the moment...maybe Im plain stupid... or lazy? ;)

I've had no problem with feedback, but I'm not using it on high Character settings or real high drive settings or high of both. Generally for me on the pedal knobs if my Drive is around 12:00 my Volume is low, and if my Volume is high the drive is Low. I've no use for the sounds with the Drive above 12:00. I've no need for full blown gritty, fuzzy, distorted, overdrive sounds. I use my two VT's for tone shaping via the Character and EQ knobs with one of them having the Drive around 11:00 for a very subtle hint of tube drive.

You need to set it pretty close to unity gain to not get feedback. My guess is you're pumping a ridiculous amount of level into your amp and getting feedback. Back down on it until you reach close to unity gain. Also, the controls are EXTREMELY sensitive, so bear that in mind as well.

So I just found the manual thread and read it, and it doesn't use a TRS cable. But the output is low impedance so they claim you can run long lengths of cable. Still, I'd plug it into a DI for live work even if it's low Z.

Hi.

Thanks for all you answers. I think that VT bass is just for me. When I play live, generally there are DI boxes, so I don't have to worry about that, although I think it would be great to buy a decent DI too.

In the bass player review from the Tech 21 website they say that VT bass has a unbalanced 1/4" output:

So, for live playing I think it´s neccessary to have a DI box.

I haven't tried it the other way yet, but it makes the envelope in my Zoom B2 extremely trebly when it's after the VT. But I've settled into using the VT as an OD rather than to emulate Ampeg clean sounds.

Hey dudes. I'm kinda new to the whole o/d / distortion thing, but am beginning to appreciate a bit of dirt in my sound. I know the sansamp DI's are 'amp simulators', but do they have a 'speaker simulator' included? Does it roll off some of the top end fizz on the balanced o/p like a mic'd cabinet? I don't want to get that swarm of bumble bees buzz through FOH! Does the VT do this too? Cheers!

Yes it does (all the Sansamps including the VT) - I played through a PA the other day with a Supercollider fuzz going into the VT. I think it rolls off everything below 5kHz or so. Sounds best with the character at about 9 o'clock with heavy fuzz otherwise it sounds too nasal for my liking!

I had a PBDDI and a regular SABDDI. I also own a Behringer ADI21. I will say, the Behringer has much more low end (and the sweepable mids work). I do not like a ton of grind (I love the clean SVT tone), but the Behringer has a bit of tube emulation. The killer is that the input can't handle a hot signal and for almost every bass I have to turn the volume down so I don't clip the pedal.

Does the Para Driver have those lows (seems to boost at 40hz or so vs. the Bass Driver which is punchier but not as deep)?
