Sansamp RBI to mixer: do i need a DI?

this is a noob question, i know....sorry.
a friend wants me to play at pool parties this summer. he has a small mixer/PA. i was thinking of going from my bass through my RBI to the mixer but not sure if i need a DI in between the RBI and the mixer. can anyone help me out on this one?

if the mixer has a 1/4" jack, then no. You will get a fantastic sound, trust me! Does your RBI have an XLR out?

You're good no matter which one you choose, I say. My RBI sounds great through either output.

hi. thanks for the reply. the RBI does have 1/4" and XLR outs. i had originally bought it as a backup and haven't used it much for my main gig. just wasn't sure about using with this little xenyx 802 behringer mixer my friend has. thanks again!

told you it was a noob question! i wasn't sure whether using the RBI's XLR would take the place of a dedicated DI or not. but thanks for directly pointing that out. none of the stuff i read online really directly stated such.

The size of the mixer won't matter (assuming there is an available channel for you). But the size of the power amp / speakers in the PA system will matter. If this is a small PA intended for, say, voice and acoustic guitar, it's probably not going to be adequate for bass guitar. If it's a powerful system, the RBI should do fine.

hi. thanks for the info. it is a small setup exactly for acoustic/vocals but we are gonna try and plug the bass in there too and see how it works. would be much better than me having to lug my mesa 15/16 and head for playing by the pool. that would be overkill, i think...

Uhh... the XLR out is a DI.

Yep...and the engineers were clever enough to put the DI / XLR level knob on the front of the unit so you can match things up with the mixer's input gain. You can use either the SansAmp or Unaffected XLR's or 1/4" ouputs. Still wish it had a mute as turning the XLR level fully CCW attenuates the signal by 90-95% only.
