Sansamp RBI

Doe's anyone own one of these? is a preamp? Because I've been reading up on it, and i'm not too sure.

What doe's it do to the sound? etc etc.

The RBI is similar to the rest of Tech 21's SansAmp bass products in that it is designed to replicate the sound of a tube amp (such as the classic Ampeg SVT).

It's also real good for final tone match of "sound" to speaker cabinet when put at the end of the signal chain with a Line 6 PODXTLive feeding the input and you get an XLR DI out for the soundman if you like.

I bought one a few months back, and LOVE it!!! Now I'm thinking of getting the RPM aswell. Trust us... You will not regret bying this thing.

I use one. It's a preamp and and also use the DI as a 3rd channel to the board

Pretty much. It has more in/out options, and a Mid tone control.

Feels naked to play without it now.

Mine seems to have a short in it when I don't have the $25 to ship it back to Tech 21. When I have some cash, the thing works perfect. Go figure.

I have a Sansamp Bass Driver DI and an RBI.
They both sound good but they are different. I'm using the RBI these days as my preamp and running it into the effects return of my GK 1001RBII (bypassing the GK preamp).
I like the RBI a LOT but you'll hear some criticism that it's a bit Mid-scooped, which is kind of true. Lately, I've been adding a bit of 400Hz and 500Hz with my Boss Bass EQ pedal.
On the other hand, the RBI has the Mid control centered at 1kHz which gives you good control of the upper mids, and the Treble control is at 3.2kHz, which I really like. Most modern bass amps put the Treble control too high - around 6 or 7 KHz.
The RBI also has GREAT tone and control of distortion.
I've not tried the RPM yet but I want to. It has a Mid frequency control so you can center the Mid control where you want in frequency. Unlike the RBI, the RPM doesn't have a Presence (high Treble) control.
Geddy Lee used the RBI on the Vapor Trails album and tour, then he switched to the RPM for the Snakes And Arrows album and tour. In addition to the albums, there are live DVDs for both those tours. I think his bass sounds awesome for both but the tone is a bit different.
