Sansamp recording to laptop

Hey guys,

I have been using my Sansamp BDDI live and I would like to start recording via my laptop but I don't know much about the recording process. Problem is my HP laptop doesn't have a Line In. I'm assuming I would have to use a USB converter? I've been looking at Behringers. I really don't want to have to pay more than $50. I'm not looking for professional quality just simple overdubbing over Mp3s through Audacity for just bass recording. Which cables would be best XLR? I'm kinda clueless here haha

Thanks guys, much appreciated! :D

If money is an issue, I'd double check that. Don't be fooled by the size of the plugs/jacks. A 1/8 inch 'computer' jack line in is as usable as a 1/4 inch 'guitar' jack...a couple bucks at radio shack will get you an adapter. The mic in jack (typically pink on today's pc) should work fine.

USB Audio Interface is the term for what you are thinkign of.
If your laptop really doesn't have any audio in capability, than you will need one. I can;t speak for the quality of the Beringer unit, but it seems really cheap. I'd expect to spend 100-200 for a decent interface.

Any well made XLR will be sufficient. There is no "best", despite what some (advertisers) may claim. Buy the stock music store's brand and you'll be good.

BUT: if pro audio quality is a non- issue, and you are going with PC inputs or $30 Beringer interfaces, you may as well just use the 1/4" out of your BDDI.

No Line In, just a mic and two headphone jacks. I heard going via the mic jack leads to really bad quality. So the Sansamp can't directly go into the USB port, with like an XLR to USB conveter cord if they make such a thing lol? I just wanna make sure before I shell out cash for a USB audio interface (m audio etc) when I could have bought some adapter for 5 bucks at Radio Shack to do the same thing.

I recently tried recording my bass with bad results. I went from the line out on my amp to the line in on my laptop and it sounded ok but there was this high pitched interference. This guy compared it to a "vacuum cleaner solo". I was told that I should get a DI BOX. I dont know if that will help but I might get it.
