SANSAMP

You have band mates? That's what they are there for! :D

I've had both hips replaced. The first 3-6-months post surgery I was on pins and needles trying to decide what I could do and what I couldn't do.

After 6-months -- back to normal(ish).

Now, I'm the guy who does a fair share of heavier equipment lifting in the band. Go figure.

As everyone else has said, a DI-equipped Pre-amp (or Zoom B3) will do the job for you.

Happy travels!
Thanks Semi. Thank God the guys have helped me load in and load out. Felt useless but Im sure once I heal up Ill be cut no slack anymore lol. Did you have both hips done at the same time?

Hi Joe. I hope you make a good recovery and get back to "normal" soon ;)

I use the Sansamp Programmable Driver as this gives me three independent channels (for me: 1 normal tone, 2 boost, 3 dirty solo) and run this directly into a clean amp/cab but ALSO directly to the desk for the PA and it sounds GREAT: the Sansamp really does sound good, very natural and flexible.

My Sansamp is on a little pedalboard and preceded by a tuner, a high-pass, a multiband compressor, a distortion pedal, a limiter and then the Sansamp. It's a tiny pedalboard but gives me a super-controlled, highly flexible rig whether I use an amp or just go direct to the PA.

My band have a golden rule that the drummer completely ignores: get the lightest gear possible! The audience are not responding to the minutiae of our "tone" they are responding to the songs, the performance, the energy etc (obviously!). My priority is to stay healthy, reduce load-in time and energy and keep our stage footprint as minimal as possible. I use a Markbass 2 X 12 which is about 14kg / 30lbs, an EBS Reidmar head 3kg / 7lbs and a Les Paul Jr bass (not sure of the weight, but it is SUPER light). I can carry it all in with one journey using a foldable trolley. Whilst my priority is to keep things light and minimal, this is easily the best sounding rig I've ever had by a MILE.

Hope this helps and sorry it was long-winded - I don't get to talk about gear very often, at least without the other person raising their eyebrows and stifling a yawn.

Another Joe ;)

+1 for the timeless SansAmp... they are legendary and still around for a reason despite all the modern modeling possibilities. Wishing you a speedy recovery as well!

If all that doesn't work for you, you could try some ultra light cabs, e.g. the new MarkBass range or GR Bass from Italy. I hope it works as is though. Best wishes from Germany!
Thanks Steve
