Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer?

Where do i buy this? A regular hardware store?

Do I need any other tools? Eg, a spray gun?

Where do i spray it? All over body, including pickup cavaties?

Do i spray it on fretboard as well as back of neck?

Thanks in advance ;)

Tell us about the bass your wanting to finish. Pix please!

Go to ReRanch Guitar Refinishing and read up on finishing. Other vendors with lots of good info:

STEWMAC.COM : Guitar Parts, Bass, Banjo, Mandolin, Hardware, Tools, Supplies, Free Information
Luthiers Mercantile International, Inc. Guitar Builder Wood and Supplies

Only spray the fretboard if it's maple. You'll have to clean it off the frets, quite a job. Otherwise mask it off.

You don't want to spray the cavities, especially the neck pocket if it has one.

Other alternative is an oil finish. Great for the back of the neck. Makes it super slick.

Also check out the stickys in this forum for more info.

Keep up the questions.

A lot of Home Depots carry spray lacquer, but are petroleum-based and smell like it too.
I made a box for my brother-in-law a long time ago for his fancy chess set and it stunk forever. That is when I stopped using petroleum-based lacquer. Never tried it on any of my basses though.
I have yet to see any Menard's, Home Depot, Lowes... carry any Nitro basses lacquer. Then again, I'm basing it off of the stores in the Minneapolis, MN area.
Stewmac and grizzly are the two places I get my nitro from.
