Saxophone

Just curious, Lionel, what hardness / strength reed are you using? I need to work up my chops (embouchure) to get back to the 3 & 1/2s I used to use, but for now, I'm taking baby steps with 2&1/2s...

I've always wondered if the jazz saxophonists with the really "breathy" type tone used softer reeds or if their chops were just strong enough to make hard reeds weep and sing...
It's hard to explain how a sound is made, most sax players sound how they are.
The opening has a role.
This is a comparison with the alto saxophone, I'm sorry, I've got only one mouthpiece on tenor.

Alto, all with the same reed, I can't remember if it was a Vandoren 3 or 3 1/2

(jazz metal mouthpiece) Very open

(jazz hard rubber mouthpiece) Less open

(classical hard rubber mouthpiece) Very closed
