you're sorta missing the point, though.

this is all about respect as a player. most younger folks haven't earned it yet, and rightly so. everyone who picks up an instrument isn't automatically a musician, and a couple of months of fiddling around won't make someone one either.

a sad fact is that 90% of the guys you know your age will not stick with the instrument. in fact, that's probably a conservative estimate - the odds are higher probably. you can't expect someone to get "respect" for their "playing" from the older dedicated players when chances are they'll move on to some other hobby in less than a year.

it's not an insult, it's just an explanation. the only way someone's going to get respect as a player is if it's earned through playing, regardless of age.

Man, it sucks being 15 or 16 here... you get guys like JT baggin on you all the time ;)

Easiest way to get respect is to not be a tard. If you ask a question here, and someone gives you an answer you don't want to hear, or their opinion is different, don't go ripping their heads off. Chances are most of these guys know what they are talking about, and are talking from their experience. I consider myself a semi-respected member of TB. I'm 16, and joined a few days before my 14th birthday. I've been around here for a quite a while, and it took some time for people to actually respect me. :)

unimportant where talent is involved.Some great musicians might have taken 30 years of playing to
get to where they are today;conversely,other child

I'd love to be 30, or even 40, again... :)

Seriously though, we've tried to invite younger people (like half our age) into our band(s) and musically there have been no problems, we all like each other while playing a song. The problems usually show up between songs, and between rehearsals. The age difference does mean there are differences in interests, in humour, in what subjects we find interesting. This has led to less than ideal group building, and the younger guys tend to leave after a while. I guess we "older" guys are boring or something.

A good point you made there.In between songs
the younger guys talk about the next female conquest;the older guys discuss the next heating bill(or in Scotland..the next council tax payment).That said,'fretnomore',stay cool.Scotland's slap bassist."Fallon".

Thats why I'm glad my town isnt super huge and all my friend's parents (and mine) drive huge vans :D If someone can't get a ride with someone then you can usually be taken by another band member. Also, a lot of places around here have all ages concerts and there is this one Ska band, Saggin Bowl, all high school kids, no older than 16 and they get to play in the bars at the all ages concerts and can get rides from parents if needed :D

I'm 48 [f&*cking old] but I gig with musicians of all ages.....I never look down at younger cats, if anything I try to learn from them! Never think your IT! Always be humble to your art, and you will go far.....just be open and you will be amazed at what you will learn:cool:

I don't have a problem with playing with older lads...as long as they're cool,and share common music interest...also...a pretty daughter always helps;)
