Watching it I feel like I’m supposed to be a sucker. They seem like genuinely good guys, and they can seriously play, but I wish they’d stop coming off like they were on QVC shilling garbage at 2am.

Scott's from Yorkshire, a place very dear to me where I spent over half my life so I want him to do well, but I also wish he'd dial it back a bit.

I do realise Leeds is in West Yorkshire, though, which is a lawless but exciting place. And Danny Sapko is also from West Yorkshire. I spent my time in North Yorkshire where the punks are much more genteel and the jazz much more lounge. You'd never have got the likes of Sisters of Mercy in Harrogate or New Model Army in Ripon. And the grandfather of British folk lives in Robin Hood's Bay, which is the most exciting thing that has happened there in 100 years.

They really didn't explore the tonal options. Didn't try cutting the treble or bass a bit, didn't spend any time on 1 pup, always both together. Just didn't go "there" electronically. That said, I do agree that L 2000s are very barky or mid forward. But, G&L is making a better P or J bass these days by incorporating the design upgrades that Leo added to the L series; better bridge, 6 bolt neck, cleaner neck pockets, better tuners. Just better workmanship all around. You'll feel the difference if you compare an American G&L to an American pro Fender. Something about the G&L feels more boutique. But I agree that G&L needs "something" to appeal to the masses ala Fender or MusicMan. G&Ls do seem very generic. The body is bland and the headstock is a mixed bag for some. I do prefer the original CLF headstock which has come back on some American instruments.
They're a nice bass.

Any scuba divers here? I'm reminded of the contrast between recreational divers and cave/tech divers.. The more extreme the conditions, the more simple and boring the gear.
People on the dive boat stared at my setup because it was so spare. It looked like a jock strap next to all the others with pockets, valves and buckles.
I started as a recreational diver and was obsessed with the latest gear. Later, not so much.

JUST LIKE FENDER, G&L haas some awesome stuff that makes me drool and a good amount of crap I don't care about. I would LOVE the opportunity to do a custom shop L-1000. I really like their L-1000, Fallout (USA), plus Skyhawk, Comanche and Espada guitars.

Red Wings are great, but would probably not be a good choice to wear into overhead environments.

I wore Red Wings to work for decades, but these days they are definitely a fashion accessory for most who wear them, especially the Heritage models. I am not claiming that this statement is in any way relevant to G&L basses.

SBL has some pretty good content I think, but at those prices they really have to sell HARD. I would love to work through Gary Willis’ course for one, but jeez.
