With the finish still curing on my last build, I'm already jonseing to start something new. My next build will be a tenor ukulele. It's really more of a prototype for a steel string acoustic guitar but since I've never built an acoustic from scratch (I have done a kit) I wanted to start with something small enough that I could build it using leftover wood from other projects.
Back and sides will be zebrawood. When I made a previous zebrawood project, I noticed it had a wonderful tap tone so it should make a great acoustic.
Neck is either maple or sapele. My sapele has a lovely ribbon figure but is only 3/4" thick so I'll need to do a scarf joint and stacked heel. The maple is almost thick enough for a one piece; if I use it I'll need to either add headstock wings or a center stripe, probably of scrap padauk.
Bridge and fingerboard are a piece of Indian rosewood I had on hand. I'm supposed to use it to make something for my wife, don't tell her I'm using it for a ukulele... There should be enough for both.
The only wood I need to buy is the top and bracing. I'll see if i can get a decent piece of spruce locally, but acoustic quality top wood can be hard to track so I might just order one.
I don't know if it'll be finished before the deadline but in the anarchistic fashion of the times, I'm entering anyway. I have other non-instrument projects I want to work on too and don't know how much time this one will get.

Good place though. They have occasionally had large enough scraps for a body in the off cut bin to.
