Justin, from an aspiring session bass player, which practices or exercises helped you the most for your session playing. I feel I can play a line pretty well if it's given to me, but struggle to make up something really unique on my own. Are your lines written out for you most of the time, or do you get to say "Hey, what do you think if I play it like this?"

Thanks,

-Ted

I've answered this elsewhere. Perhaps search "metronome", or "practice".

But no, my lines are never written out, except for the rarest occasion. In session world, people pay good money because they want you to compose a great bass line that serves the song and is performed well.
