Scam.. or not? I got a real check for $5000

I did get the check and I took it to chase who said I could deposit it and open a new account. However there would be a ~$30 fee if it was fraudulent. I was 99% sure it was BS so I never deposited it. Today I got an email saying the following...

Well it was bcos i was trying to get thing ready here is the new date of the wedding Aut 18 and the check that was sent u to the amount is $4,200 and it was send through fedex here is the tracking number so you will know when the check will get to you (ffedex------- 8625-4124-9191) so you can track it to know when it will get to you plz as soon as you get the payment take it to ur bank and get it cash and i will send you with the info you will use in sending the rest money back and i will like to have and ageerment form so i can full and send back to you am so happy that my dreams are coming to pass i beg of you to try all you can to play in my wedding you are my only hope now get back to me so i will know if this mail is ok by you do have a great day and God bless you.

Since its on the topic of fraud, I got a really, REALLY good scam email the other day from "Internal Revenue Service"
And it goes like this:

"Good News,

I think my favorite part is the "linked to the checking/savings account accepted" piece. Can you imagine how many people actually did jump on this? I was like, wait a second, emails aren't legal documents so why the IRS...because it was damn good. Had me fooled for a second. Then I noticed it was being translated from cyrillic :)
