Scam?

Many banks here will cash the check if the issuer uses the same bank and if the check was issued by that bank. But may charge a fee if the check is over a certain amount (ie. $10 charge for cashing checks over $50)

but I won’t be pursuing this CL response anyways.

Pretty sure this is a scam, but I'm not sure. Posting some gear for sale on CL. I've ALWAYS met with people in person prior to selling, as I'm pretty hip to the scammers.

"Thank you so much for your response, I've been working really long weeks at work so I won't be able to meet with you before purchase, but am ok with the price and condition as shown on the advert, I'll proceed in issuing a check to you and when you receive the payment and it clears, I will make arrangement for pickup. So get back to me with below details asap.

Full name :
Physical Address (Only,not po box):
City, State, Zip:
Your cell Phone Number:
Deal Price:

As soon as this is provided, payment will be overnight to you through UPS next day delivery and I will let you know then tracking number of the package. I will also add an additional $50 for keeping other buyers off till my check gets to you, also please delete the posting or mark as sold."

I've not responded and I likely won't as I'm 99% sure it's a scam....but I kinda need cash (filed my taxes wrong in first year of marriage) so if it's real, I do want to pursue it.

Thanks in advance TB'ers.
100% sure it's a scam. I wouldn't even reply.

Nope! No checks, and offer no personal information over the internet. MAJOR SCAM!!!

Oh man I played along with a scam like this a while back, I strung the person along for like 5 weeks! I kept driving the price up and up, until he sent me a $1,500 USD check! It sure looked real, it even said, "This is an official bank check" right on it!
then when I wouldn't send him the money he got all uppity on me and said he was gonna call the cops ! He only had my PO Box address, so it didn't really matter.
It was a lot of fun, and when he finally gave up I kinda missed our daily text messages.

Oh we did, thanks for the tip! We are getting it straight but still owe money.

Well hey some things are common sense for some and not others. At least I have enough sense to ask others first. But I’m sure you know there are questions you may ask that are common sense to others and not you. Hopefully you’ll take their rude and unhelpful responses with a grain of salt as I have yours.
Lol, okay!!!

Yeah dude, it's a scam. They'll send you a check for like 3 grand, and tell you to deposit it in to an ATM, and not to go inside the bank. He'll tell you that the extra money is for shipping, and to just send wherever's left in an envelope with the driver. The check will bounce, he'll get your money, you'll get hit, and owe. The check will have a fake bank and account number on it, and a computer printed (horribly) signature on it. This happened to me twice selling a cabinet. I got the fake check, and walked in to the bank and asked a bunch of questions. I hit him up about it, and he sent me three more checks. All the same. I decided to sell it to another guy. Same exact thing. Same exact checks and amounts, except with two different banks.

post for sale on CL, and scammers will show up
very predictable if anything of quality
my CL terms of sale:
cash sale only
will not ship
must pick up in person
no exceptions
yes, this limits buyers, keeps it local and honest
never been scammed with these terms of sale

Where I work, I often receive these odd scam inquiries where they want to order food from the restaurant I manage but they want a private courier to deliver the food so they ask me to charge their credit card an additional amount to pay the courier in cash. I've often wondered how this scam works. If I actually went through with it, would the courier just steal the money that I'm supposedly paying them or is there some scam with credit card refunds that they're trying to take advantage of? Anyone ever experienced this?

Not much risk there because they’ll be afraid you might spit in their food next time they order.
