Scam?

A Cheque issuer has up to 6 months to get the transaction reversed,
it can be banked into your account and the money sits there for a long time.
But suddenly one day in 5 months time there will be a transaction reversal,
one of those things about cheques, they have provision for Authorization Reversal.

A very common scam, typically from Nigeria, used a lot on car sales where the buyer is not able to view the car,
but will pay you extra to deliver it to a shipping company.

I definitely have an overactive jack@ss gene and can get a lot of entertainment from messing around with people who deserve it. However, when it comes to obvious scams, spam emails, annoyance calls, etc., I simply don't reply. Ever. That's the only way I'll deal with those things.
They're bots anyway, so the only person's time you're wasting is yours.

Pretty sure this is a scam, but I'm not sure. Posting some gear for sale on CL. I've ALWAYS met with people in person prior to selling, as I'm pretty hip to the scammers.

"Thank you so much for your response, I've been working really long weeks at work so I won't be able to meet with you before purchase, but am ok with the price and condition as shown on the advert, I'll proceed in issuing a check to you and when you receive the payment and it clears, I will make arrangement for pickup. So get back to me with below details asap.

Full name :
Physical Address (Only,not po box):
City, State, Zip:
Your cell Phone Number:
Deal Price:

As soon as this is provided, payment will be overnight to you through UPS next day delivery and I will let you know then tracking number of the package. I will also add an additional $50 for keeping other buyers off till my check gets to you, also please delete the posting or mark as sold."

I've not responded and I likely won't as I'm 99% sure it's a scam....but I kinda need cash (filed my taxes wrong in first year of marriage) so if it's real, I do want to pursue it.

Thanks in advance TB'ers.

Cheque use in Oz is nearly dead. Unless it’s a Bank cheque which is as safe as a house. EFT is now the way to go.

I always get those when I list on Craigslist. I reply with, "Which item were you interested in--I've got several listed?" and they never reply.

LOL! Good one!

I like to reply with:

"Okay sounds good! Please mail your check to my work address which is:

John Doe Smith
Federal Bureau of Investigations
International Fraud Division
Sacramento Field Office
2001 Freedom Way
Roseville CA 95678

Only check I would ever accept is a cashiers check. Any online transaction would be PayPal or some similar safe way of electronic payment where either party could dispute in the case of a catastrophic problem.
Cashier's checks are routinely forged. Unless you go to the bank with the buyer and watch them have the check drafted I wouldn't risk it... and in that case, why not have them withdraw cash?

On a positive note if you made a mistake filling your taxes you can go to your nearest IRS office and file an amended return and get straight.

Oh we did, thanks for the tip! We are getting it straight but still owe money.

You shouldn't even have to ask.

Well hey some things are common sense for some and not others. At least I have enough sense to ask others first. But I’m sure you know there are questions you may ask that are common sense to others and not you. Hopefully you’ll take their rude and unhelpful responses with a grain of salt as I have yours.
