scarification...

Any of you here gone through it? I kinda want to get a big "X" cut out on my calf, and what better a way to have an awsome mark than to have it scar over?

I think it's a good idea, I'd like a tattoo, but man, I think that this would look so much cooler, anyone ever done it?

hm. i love body mods. big fan of tattooing myself...

scarification has never been a big thing for me. just... i donno. too ritualistic for me. it has a deeper original root.

but who cares. its your body and you can do whatever you want.

ps- hXc stuff is kinda lame, IMHO. if thats what you're going for... yeesh.

Nah, I want it cut, not burn't...I have burn scars already, they don't look as nice as the cut scars do. Dunno if that makes sense.

makes sense. burn scars aren't as uniform or 'adjustable' haha.

scarification is done by actually removing a STRIP of skin, not just making a cut and letting it heal. if you're going for the wide scars, like the african ones, thats what they do. not the africans though... they did small cuts then put herbs to make them scar more. apparently this is unsanitary now though... :rollno:

i'm not trying to scare you, but just offering some helpful advice.

No worries, I'm fully aware that a strip of skin gets removed, I have no problem with that, I'm thinking around 1-1.5 cm in width should leave a nice mark once the skin is yanked.

I think I may go with a spiral on my left calf (will go around the side of my leg slightly aswell), since I already have a gash that's scarring on my right calf, so it would get in the way.

Should be fun, now just have to finish convincing my parents to not freak out.....this could be delayed for a while :(

Not quite...I don't see the proof anywhere...It's just like contemplating getting a tattoo, which many folks have....just a very differeny "tattoo".
Dude, I feel pretty much the same way about tattoos. Most tattoos look ridiculous and are a tremendous waste of time and money, especially when the person gets old and the tattoo gets disgfigured and hideous looking. I'm all about "live and let live," so if that makes you happy to mutilate yourself in that fashion, go ahead and do it. But I will goof on you for it, and you can't stop me! So HA!!!

There are two different kinds. You can do it the way you described which is traditional scarification, and probaly the most popular, it's mostly for stuff that is thicker lines and for the ritual of it. Especially if you plan on keeping the skin to cook/eat or whatever you desire.

The other way is dermabrasion scarification, which is more like a tattoo and more controlled. With this the skin isn't cut off, it's just destroyed. They take a tattoo gun and dry run it really roughly over the design, destroying the skin with the needles. Or sometimes they take a dremel tool which is becoming really popular due to it's ease of purchase, that way you can do it yourself.

This is a dremel style dermabrasion....
