Scary video games thread

The first level of Doom 3 scared the **** out of me! It wasnt a smart idea to play it in a pitch dark room, with 5.1 surround sound at 2 in the morning!

FEAR is also very very creepy, bits where the girl crambers towards you in vents and stuff, and one bit where you turn to go down a ladder and shes right there. Very creepy game!

Manhunt is still the scariest game I've played. A tremendous amount of tension builds up when playing it, and the realness of it and the surroundings builds on that fear. Great game.

On a side note, to this day it scares me just about every time Jason pops out when playing the Friday the 13th game for Nintendo, especially when in a house with him. Creepy music too.

I love Silten Hill. Quite simply, just a sublime series of games! I also have a deep love for Resident Evil, though I find them to be more "cool" than scary or disturbing.

My favourite "scary" games are Forbidden Siren 1 and 2, or just Siren for you US gamers! Very japanese, incredibly well made with amazing detail and realism, and stories so well paced they keep you hook and make you genuinely empathise with the characters. Also, the idea of a stealth survival horror was very much an inspired one!

Mind you, I should warn anyone thinking of buying them that the first game will make weak minds weep and beg for death, such can be it's level of difficulty at times. It was a big thing for me, completing a game which had been such a challenge!

The second game is soooo much easier, but just as good, as the story is just as strong and the chance of location and feel in the game keeps things fresh. Also, the interaction between the characters great, and in the end you'll grow to love the characters. You'll cheer when the geek becomes the hero, and when Yorito, the apprehensive solider, finally lets go of everything that holds him down in life and succumbs to an utterly beautiful madness.

I forgot about Manhunt. Definitely a scary game because of it's realness.

I find games like Manhunt are the scariest, because it's mostly all VERY POSSIBLE. Like one of the weapons I believe was a bag to suffocate enemies.

Scary Stuff Man.

The first Resident Evil I bought was Nemesis (3). After that I was hooked and had to go buy the previous ones I missed. I just love it when I'm just walking down the street, mindin' my own business......... and BAM! A Zombie jumps out of a burning car, right in your face!
