Schaller 3D Piezo bridge wires?

Hello to all,
New to the forum, just got this bridge from a trade and I want to install it but I'm a bit confused with it.
There are these thin wires for each string but they are coming through the underside of the bridge. Am I suppose to drill a hole for these thin wires so I can get them to the cavity for the pots. I know I need a preamp to make use of the piezo bridge but I don't really want to drill the body of the bass that I intend to equip it with and maybe I'll just use it without the piezo system. Kinda bummer because it's a NOS bridge and would be interesting to try the piezo system but don't really want to drill the body. I do have a tiny hole for the grounding wires there but it's not positioned at the same spot as the ones on the bridge..

I have this same bridge on my J-style bass and I love the sound. The luthier who built the bass put in a rout under the bridge and drilled a single hole through to the control cavity (you can see it in the second pic, behind the hole for the bridge pickup). Sounds great, worth the effort.

That's a beautiful bass! Well, it doesn't seem as intrusive as I thought it would be, I want to put this bridge on an old Greco P bass copy and that's why I'm kind of hesitating about drilling the body. What preamp are you using? The Schaller Flagship is expensive but there are other options I guess.

I’m using the Graphtec Ghost Acousti-Phonic preamp. My luthier and I had previously designed another bass using the Ghost system with a 13-pin synth out as well, so we were familiar with it already. I honestly think that the RMC system has a better overall sound, however: the Ghost system inherently has zero quack, which is great; and for a solid-body bass where you’ll probably be using the mags at the same time, the RMC probably wouldn’t make that much difference over the Ghost system in the mix. But if I was doing a hollow-body acoustic bass, I’d go RMC.
