I'm upgrading a entry level short scale pBass clone. It play OK, but sounds like junk when amped or direct for recording.
I recently purchased a used set of Schaller pBass pickups. On the back are stickers indicating West German manufacture.

One pickup is numbered 9/88 -.9- and has a yellow and brown wire. The other is marked 2/91 -.1 and has white and green wires. Here are some questions I have.
Are the numbers manufacturing codes or do they designate which pickup is bass (E & A) side verses treble (D & G) side?
Does anyone know by the colors, which wires are the ground and which are the hot leads?
Is there any benefit to wiring them in series verses parallel?
Would there be any significant benefit to wiring them as two individual pickups with independent tone and volume controls?
I'll also be replacing all the cheap pots and plug for less noise and better signal quality.
What suggestions does anyone have as to types and brands of pots (including resistance), capacitors (type and size for tone) and input jack?
I appreciate any help with this.
