Schecter Model T Session - someone please disuade me...

Hmmm... the difference between using active or passive pickups for a passive tone control seems to be that rather than using a 250 or 500 Kohm potentiometer, I'd use a 25K... is that correct?

In that case... those 25K stacked pots would work? :) :)
I don't mind soldering... although for a little extra I might just get the solderless and make it easy to mix and match modules (in case I decide to change more things after all later)

Hey, thank you!!! :)

The bass has originally a master volume, blend, and stacked Bass/Treble.
Do you think there would be a way to have a stacked master volume & (passive) tone, blend, and the VMC mids control? I really don't need the bass/treble. :hyper:

If you Have Stacked Volumes you don't need a Blend. I forgot you have a Blend, sorry.

Yes, EMG has a Passive tone control for Treble that works like a regular tone control.
When you buy a set of EMG's they come with a Passive Tone and Volume control for each pickup.
You could just replace your Pre-Amp with a Passive Tone Control. Sometimes "Less is More" ! That's how I roll.
I was thinking you wanted more control. ??

I think my ideal is a hybrid:

- I really like passive tone controls. I miss that roll-off that the EMG active treble control just cannot do.

- I don't care for active bass/treble controls. I'll use them if they're there but it's not something I *must* have

- mids mids mids... a semiparametric mids module is something I really like. Something like the John East, with a wide range (selectable 100-1000 Hz or 200-2000 Hz). I see the EMG covers 100-1000Hz, which is perfect.

My 'niggle' with the controls in the Model T is that I cannot get that nice treble roll off, and that I can't control the mids easily: I have to play with the bass/treble to find the gap in the mids the way I like it.

If I had the room, I'd add two extra controls happily (passive tone plus VMC)... but as I'm restricted to 3 pots... a stacked master volume/tone, plus blend, plus VMC would make me very happy (I think!) and I would leave the EMG pickups on.

It looks like I might be able to do that, right?

Yes, EMG Active Volume and Tone pot's are 25k ohm. I believe they also use a .047uF cap. I can check to be certain if you'd like.

You can do that. Both of those EMG Stacks has the Cap for passive tone.

Hey guys.
You can mod it as much as you like of course. Even route the cavity longer and cut a new metal plate for it. But have you tried any external FX? I'm using a single Zoom MS60b and there isn't a tone you can't get with these two together before a bass amp screws it up. lol It's always the damned bass amps that limit everything at the end for me.

I wish you were in the US, I'd just send you a 25k pot and cap. just to replace your Pre-Amp with a Passive Tone control to see if that's all that you need.

Thank you for your kindness :) I should be able to find them over here easily too... at least until Brexit (but let's not get into politics :p )

I'm going to forget the DiMarzio pickups for now, and try the passive tone control with a semiparametric mids module... fingers crossed! :)

Of course I could use any of the many external tone shaping boxes available to get closer to the sounds I want, but I like being able to perform these tweaks from the bass.

That's why I don't care much for an active bass or treble control (except to exploit their interaction to control mids). I generally set the sound I want from my amp & bass, and use the onboard controls for relatively small tweaks. Sometimes rolling off treble in a way that a passive control works best (for my liking), sometimes boosting some mids here, or cutting them for another song... etc.

I do not have the ability to cut metal plates, so it's not something I could consider :D However it looks like there may be a good solution with the available space. Let's see! :)

I don't need another bass.
I don't need a P/J.
I already have a lovely Maruszczyk P/J (well, P/JJ really)

BUT... dang, this thing is sexy, the right shade of 'natural', look at that fingerboard!... and nice neck profile with a comfy/slim (for me) 42mm at the nut... hmmm... combining a bit of that "telecaster" bass vibe with the split-coil Precision, and a preamp... and it's not TOO expensive...

Please, someone tell me they've tried it and it is a terrible terrible bass...

Four and a half years later... and still loving it. :)

It's seen other P/J and P/MM basses come and threaten its position as my solid #2 (#1 remains the Stingray)... but the Model T is just fantastic.

That's all.

So I have been playing this bass for 4-5 months now and I can say for sure that its a beast. You can play pretty much anything with it and it sound gorgeous. I was wondering what strings you guys are using on your model T. I am currently using DR sunbeams on my omen extreme and I quiet like them. I have not changed the strings on my model T so I would like to have your opinions on different strings before buying any.
Any opinion will be appreciated :)

I have basses, many many great basses and some basses, made by some really great people, who, I’ve heard, are very very smart, and everybody’s talking about it. What I’ve heard is that Schecter creates absolutely great things which are a huge hit with the bass players. Alot if people tell me this and guess what folks, I believe them.
