Schecter Model T Session - someone please disuade me...

I don't need another bass.
I don't need a P/J.
I already have a lovely Maruszczyk P/J (well, P/JJ really)

BUT... dang, this thing is sexy, the right shade of 'natural', look at that fingerboard!... and nice neck profile with a comfy/slim (for me) 42mm at the nut... hmmm... combining a bit of that "telecaster" bass vibe with the split-coil Precision, and a preamp... and it's not TOO expensive...

Please, someone tell me they've tried it and it is a terrible terrible bass...

I played one…didn't buy it even though the price was right.
Why?
Because the sound wasn't.

Oh heck, buy it, it's good, the neck is nice, it's got that retro outside but modern inside going for it...

I don't normally like block fret markers. In fact, on one of my custom Maruszczyk basses I went for no markers at all. But there's something about these big chunks going only half way that I find very attractive and fits the overall look.

If it's good enough... I have a John East U-Retro preamp in my drawer that might just be the thing for this bass (I'm not a fan in general of most 2-band preamps, but we'll see how the EMG works out)

Well, I got it... and at first I was not in love with the sound but I'm getting there. It's not your typical P/J bass, and I was never a big fan of EMG pickups/preamps... but the P pickup is really good so I'm just getting the hang of it balancing the J pickup with it just the way I wanted. The strings it came with didn't do it justice, way too bright (I don't like new strings much anyway)... The bass is nicely built, feels great, the neck is very nice, fretwork was excellent and I set it up with very low action and no buzz anywhere...
The P pickup is about an inch closer to the bridge than on a normal Precision, so that accounts for some of the extra brightness, I guess, but the EMG P is a great pickup, nice low mid growl when I push it... just need to tame the treble a little... I think this is the pickup that may make me rethink EMG (my previous experience was only Jazz pickups).

The EMG P Has been a favorite of mine for 25 years. Something about Ceramic Magnets, IMO. I recently purchased 2 new Schecters, a Michael Anthony & a dUg, the factory strings were terrible. I even contacted Schecter about it and told them that if I had tested the Michael Anthony in a music store I probably would have thought the pickups sucked and wouldn't have purchased it. I told them they would probably sell more Basses in Showrooms if they put quality strings on them. I love the full bright tone of my favorite DR Hi-Beams.
I have 2 older, non-Session Model T's and really enjoy them.

Re: factory settings.

The strings are supposed to be Ernie Ball nickels. Not bad. Just not what I prefer... I actually don't dislike them but only after they've been played for a couple of weeks or so. I guess it's hard to use a string that everybody will love. I'm with DR Fat Beams now, and even if they're new, they are already much more to my liking (again, it takes me a couple of weeks of regular use until the Fat Beams sound the way I like them).

Pickup heights... that has such a big effect on how these pickups sound! I spent some time adjusting them, by ear, and I agree with what you said: it sounds so much better now that I adjusted them. One thing that was annoying is that they don't seem to have enough foam under them, so you can only raise them a tiny bit. Easily solved but it's an oversight.

No complaints 'though, the things that really matter are well done, like fretwork. I love that neck!

2 month old and I don't want to price bump these but... You did the right thing. This thing doesn't need any kind of modding whatsoever! Just the strings of your choice. I prefer "brighter" flats.
Very flexible from bridge to pickups and BTC EQ and there's something about Schecter necks in general that I can't quite tell what but even the cheapy c-4 feels really comfy.
On the aesthetics department, I'd say it is for 30+ people and definitely not targeted to be a first bass but something to end the search of an informed buyer/player for a long time and get attached to the brand. I think it looks like THE bass I'd like to be seen with. heh

BTW to make this post a bit more meaningful, here's a not so well known thing about these and might be the cause of your too much treble problem: open it up and you have 4 possible treble knob frequency band settings inside. Mini switches. ON/ON position is what you'd like I think but easy to try them all.
