Schecter Nikki Sixx Bass

Anyone own one? I can't find one anywhere to try out.. How does it feel ? Compared to the Gibson Thunderbird? ..I know Nikki has played Schecter bass guitars on Crue Albums and Sixx AM stuff..Did he have a falling out with Gibson USA? Thanks for any info on the Schecter Sixx Bass..Seems like, a lot of coin.. To shell out for a bass..few hundred more and your in a Thunderbird.

Nikki has played many different basses over the years, BC Rich, Spector, Gibson ( he's recorded with Fenders), his endorsement deal with Schecter is recent, there are two models - budget, not budget. They're bases on a P J pickup arrangement which does not sound anything like a real Thunderbird from any year.
Visually it just doesn't "do it" for me, when you mess with a classic shape you don't need to go too far before it starts to look janky.

TBIRD1958..thanks for the information..I didn't know he recored with Fender basses..learn something new

Not everything, but he has used Fenders - On the Dr Feelgood album IIRC, live on a couple of YT videos playing Girls, girls, girls.

Same Ol' Situation music video too. It's a 1959 P he bought in the late '80s. I remember him saying in some interview several years ago it's what he uses to record with. The first Sixx: AM album was recorded with the '59 P and a '64 Bassman amp. He occasionally posts pictures of him playing the '59 P on Instagram. It's a rad looking bass.

From live videos, the Schecters sound pretty good, and it's nice to actually hear the bass for once in a Mötley Crüe song. But that wasn't the Tbirds fault, I've heard Tbirds sound awesome (and audible) in other bands.

Few hundred less and you can buy one of these.

You mean he really plays the bass? Sorry....

All he's ever had to do is play fun music and be in a great band for many years to make a good living........... You?

I played one at Gcenter this weekend (999.00 I believe). neck thru....seemed decent but I didn't plug it in. The neck seemed MUCH thicker/deeper and wider than my Gibson Thunderbird. Also the neck seemed too far "forward" on the bass making it an uncomfortable reach for me for notes near the nut. Definitely inspired by a Tbird but my Tbird is a much more comfortable player.

i've seen one bass player own one (left handed version) But man the dude couldn't play for scrap! So tone wise i couldn't get a good grasp on it. So i tried one myself. Verdict: it has it's moments. I own an epiphone goth bird & as much as i hate the string spacing on the goth, i didn't much like the body shape of the schecter sixx. IF he wanted a bird of different caliber, why not go back to spector? I liked that tone the best along with his early Too fast for love tones.

Formaly just replacing the stock controls on his birds with simple kill switches, now he's leaving the circuit & just adding one? Plus i'm not a fan of EMG pickups, nor do i find it necessary to have 24 frets. (at least not for my music purpose). & if i want something nikki sixx, i'll get an actual thunderbird, not this.
