Schecter raiden custom!?

I've got a couple of Schecters as well and find them to be generally well-made, excellent bang-for-the buck instruments. However, I'd be a bit wary of the Raiden basses. I've not seen the back of the bass, but unless that control plate is purely cosmetic, it appears that the route for the electronics might be under it and the pots/knobs are therefore mounted to the plate? Kinda dumb design if that's true.

Fender has been mounting knobs on a front plate for thousands of years.

I love the front plate on the Raiden, I think it looks really cool.

I don't have experience with the more expensive Raiden that's loaded with EMG HZ musicman pickups, though I've been gasing for one ever since they were announced.

But I did just play the cheap model without the control plate that's loaded with Schecter branded pickups. I can't comment on the sound much, because I was in a fairly noisy store, but it felt pretty darn good. Fatter neck, flat fretboard radius. Reminded me of the Ibanez Jet King neck. I'm not a fan of the EMG sound, but someday if I get serious about getting a bass with big musicman style pickups, I might get a raiden and swap something else into it.
