This bass is one of the most gorgeous basses i've ever seen and i was seriously considering getting it. However, i don't play metal. Of any kind. Are they only a one-trick pony? I play in a big band/swing band and i was wondering if it's good for jazz/blues/funk/soul/r'n'b. Cheers guys.

What leads you to think it's (or any) bass is only for playing 'metal'? Go play one, read the Schecter bass club and Schecter bass thread for more info to help your decision.
get on! I had one. Its a great bass. I sold it to make room for another bass. The pickups could be better. Not a fan of EMG-HZ's. And my only real nit is I like wider sting spacing. Other than that its plenty versatile and excellent quality.
I strongly agree. I just wish the EMG pups could be better and string spacing could be wider. It's a bit neck heavy for me but it's an awesome bass if you have a limited budget. You should go to a shop and check it out for yourself.
I got this bass. It is insanely good for the price. It is versitle. I play in a metal band, and a country/pop/rock band and it can do it all. Sounds great for slap too. I would like to change the pickups though. They are a bit noisy.
I have never liked the Stiletto series at all. They look nice, but the sound is sterile and honky. If you want a bass with a nice deep low end, these are not what you should be looking at.
The EMG HZs are honky. But, the tone is in your fingers and technique. Also adjusting your amp settings can dial it away. I run through a SansAmp as well. If I were to get a Stilleto again the pickups would be gone. I would replace them with Barts.
I've got a 35DC in the bridge and 35CS in the neck now - honk gone. They also work well together switched around, just prefer the DC at the bridge for pick playing.
This is a good combo too. It was recommended to me by one of the Techs at EMG (5 string version is 40DC & 40CS).
I had mine for more than 6 months already. The best thing I would suggest if you decide to buy it is replace the preamps and the pickups. It may sound good for metal but for all around versatility, it may not suit you.
I replaced mine with Seymour Duncan ASB2-5 Active Pickups and installed a Bartolini Preamp along with it. It really improved the tone especially with the B-string.
There's one thing that bothered me at first when I started playing it sitting down. The upper strap button is above the 13th fret and it is a 35" scale. My other bass is Fender Jazz that has the upper strap button above the 12 fret and it only 34" scale so it feels longer than I'm used to.
But then, that's a problem for me because I'm a 115 lbs-skins-and-bones-guy, he-he-he...
It feels alright when I'm playing it standing up, though.
another issue is the string spacing. It might be difficult for you to slap on it but for chording and fast licks, it's really easy.
The neck is very stable too because it is multi-laminated neck, I rarely adjust the truss rod on it.

Love the bass and the Schecters in general. Great quality on the one I owned. I will echo what others say about the string spacing though. Strings are a bit too close to slap and pop (for me anyway).
