Schecter Stilleto Extreme 5, and The electronics burned out 6 months into the warranty. I was thinking, while I'm getting the electronics replaced, should I upgrade? If so, What are some options? I don't want to put $1000 electronics in a $500 guitar. Any Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Take out the preamp. That might do exactly what you wanted

Actually, this is a decent idea. If the pickups sound great in a passive setup, you can choose to either leave the preamp out, or throw in a 3-band preamp that is fairly transparent when flat (Aguilar, Mike Pope, Audere, East, ...).

If you don't like how the pickups, an EMG 40CS or EMG 40J would probably fit the bill and are drop-in replacements.

Also, Does anyone know the size of the pots? 7mm or 9mm or something else?

You'll have to measure the pot shafts on your bass to be sure, but I would guess that they are the smaller pots as most imports tend to use them.
