I have a slant 1210R that I still use from time to time. In terms of dialing in with a band, the cab sounds great, and it's very efficient and loud. Regarding the mid-bump voicing, to me it's no prob, I just adjust my tone, eq, and attack to work with it depending on the room and the musical vibe - just like anyone would do with a given set of equipment. While some view the mid bump voicing as a negative trait, my experience is that it allows everything you play to be naturally (and musically) prominent in the band mix - you can't hide in the background with this cab. Worst thing I would say about my 1210R is that the tone isn't sexy, but the best thing I would say is that it really handles business at gigs. I understand the 1212R is a bit deeper in tone then the 1210R.
