A corner of my Solano Klotz was knocked off and I cannot find it. As you can see in the photos, there have been repairs in the area before. I am covered via Music Pro Insurance, but am not sure this is worth the claim. There is a $100 deductible, but this will cover a rental and transportation if I don't get it done locally.

I know the guys in FL, but don't know their work that well. Is this something a local guy can do and is it worth the claim and risk of increased premiums?

I know, I know...no one can really tell till the bass is in their hands. I just want some informed opinions.

In a perfect world to make this corner one hundred percent I would take the top off double behind the damage and further into the edge work and inlay a piece on top of the doubling bringing the corner back.

I have checked those pictures out more than once in the past. I'm hoping I can get away without doing this. The top was of just last August and I'd rather not spend that much time without my bass again.

Yours was one of the shops I had planned on contacting. Could you PM me some thoughts on getting the bass to you and a ballpark for cost?

Not trying to lose Gary a job here but shipping a bass a thousand+ miles for a tiny knocked off corner is just nuts. The work depicted by Gary is fine and would be proper with the top off for other reasons. But you don't operate on a patient when they have a hangnail. This repair can be done with the top on and for not that much money.

flint - it's a slab cut pine top.

I can now see the seam/crack above the chipped section is openening and the whole area is unstable.

Now I am looking at sending this thing off somewhere. I've already set up a MusicPro claim. So now I need advice on where to send this. As is often the case, I'm very busy with grad work (jazz and orchestral concerts) and getting need this done quickly. I would also like to secure a good rental.

I know Upton will deal with hauling issues. I cannot travel with it out of state right now because I simply don't have the time. Advice, please.

My advice; GET ANY TENSION OFF THE BASS=strings and tp off, bridge off, knock the post down with a ruler....obivoulsy you wont be able to play.

If I were repairing the bass I would prefer not to deal with any more than has already been done. So that's a no on the hide glue.

hi, i was looking for some recomendations about rumano solano, and i found this topic and here is why I'm worried.

In the next month i will recive my new bass from him, the thing is that I'm worried about to have any problem with my bass and see that he will not take care of it, as i talked with him about this he told me that any question, problem, crack, or anything related to the instrument he will take care of it as soon as possible he can, and depending of the damage he will do it at his expenses. BUT I DON'T KNOW

I mentioned this thing to rumano and he ask me to let you know that if you couldn't fix that just call him at his cellphone 443 8678516 anytime including night and he will take care of your bass, even if you can't send it, he's going to houston,TX by Florida to deliver some instrumets as he told me and he can help you out with any cost.

Rumano's been great about taking care of things when I ask him to, but sometimes our schedules don't line up. The bass is currently on Gary's table at Upton with her top off :eek:. Once Gary and I started talking, things were able to move very quickly and I Actually had to do some waiting on insurance to make sure we could move ahead. He might even be done (or pretty near, at least) before I get the insurance check.

Last Thursday, I met a very large Kolstein trunk at FedEx Freight and loaded my baby in for a return trip to Mystic, CT. Can't wait to have her back.
