SCORE!!! 1962 Precision content

That's exactly what it looks and feels like. It's very textured to the touch.

I like it though - adds to the mystery of this piece.

If it was oversprayed in nitro you can re-flow it if you wanted to. A bit (just a very small amount) of "Blush Remover" would likely do the trick.

Of course if you're like me, you'll probably just "leave it" as a testament to the history of the bass. Show the scars proudly. :)

They won't be original - should be phillips.

Looks plenty cool to me, again, great score!
One of my old refins had had a neck overspray - my (extremely anal) tech was able to gently sand it down exposing much of the original laquer underneath. That bass plays and feels amazing now.

Very interesting - I know a good guy who'd be able to do that...I'll have to think about it - doesn't bother me much now, but I have felt the way some of these old necks should feel after almost 50 years of playing, and it's glorious

I had the same dimple pattern on one of my basses, and it was made by the zipper of the gig bag I was using, because I was cheap and the gig bag was too small
That's hilarious...and kind of sad. I'll be keeping this one in a hard case for sure :p
