Scott Whitley SWB-1

Basically there's a grub screw in the saddle. The saddle floats, with the grub screw loosened you just move it manually back and forth where you like, then tighten the screw. String bears down on the saddle, keeping it down on the deck, and the grub screw stops any movement back and forth.

Be careful when tightening the screw again as the act of tightening causes the saddle to move slightly. You’ll see this when you do it. Just make sure to adjust to compensate for this.

It occurs to me we should add a video to our YouTube channel on how to adjust these.
got it! loosen the string and slide it over to expose the grub screw. Adjusted and all is right with the world!
Much easier than I had originally thought

Though the Pro model comes with EMG pickups, I don't think the stock ones are anything but regular single-coils, and low output at that, so in need of any noise reduction they can get. My jumper-wire test suggests that a regular bridge ground would help a lot.

Don’t know which EMGs Chowny put on the SWBs but many moons ago when I put EMGs on a long gone Jazz the installation instructions specifically said NOT to connect the bridge ground wire. Their website still says this...

This wire is usually soldered to a volume or tone control casing and goes to the bridge. This wire grounds the strings and uses them and your body as a shield against hum and buzz. It also creates a shock hazard. EMG Pickups are shielded internally and DO NOT require string grounding.

New pickups have been developed.

They will be in all new SWBs (if you ordered now. Can’t guarantee stock on shelves of shops have them in).

We will be selling them separately too - including with a heavy discount for existing SWB owners.

Thank you for the info. I’m wondering if these ChownyX pickups are your take on the EMGX (JX or JAX) pickups? Also wondering if I can safely run the BTC at 18 volts in an SWB-1 with these new pickups?

Thanks

They're basically the same pickups that are in the existing SWB-1 but made to our specification. We needed to find a good balance between sounding good for both active and passive configurations. The old pickups were 2.2K well shielded CERAMIC8 magnet pickups.

They gave great articulation - but we feel they're a little underpowered for passive use. So we used them as the basis for the new 4K ones that are now being made specially for us.

They will run perfectly on the BTC (I will post a video of them in use - although they don't have our logo on them - they're the exact same pickups) at both 9V and 18V. As well as sounding amazing on a passive bass.

Stephen any chance you will be offering the EMG pickups as an upgrade option?
Also, have you looked into the Hipshot solo bridges for the pro models. The are easier to adjust intonation and at the price point of the pro model wouldn't cause sticker shock.

Thank you! Can you confirm order #26143 will have the new pickups? And maybe an idea of when it will ship?

I’ve already got this back from the workshop. As it turns out I asked them to fit the new pups anyway. Because I’m nice. :)

Should ship this week. Just waiting for a shipment of shipping boxes on Wednesday.
