Scott Whitley SWB-1

I don't know if I want to know. Will it give me buyers remorse? Orlrighty then, give us the sneaky.

Well. They will be quite a bit more expensive. :D So maybe not buyers remorse?

They will have all EMG electronics (pickups/pre-amp), 5 part maple and walnut satin neck, wilkinson tuners, ebony fretboard, and available in two finishes (matt walnut and ash) and (gloss quilt maple).

Awesome Stephen. Is this all your doing? Much more visually appealing and matching headstock. Yummo.

I don't have buyers remorse, because I'm a passive guy, so keep that order coming. Really, I couldn't have paid any more or I'd be getting hit with customs duties. I'm actually quite relieved.

I must say it's great having you here and joining in to clarify. Cheers and thanks for the sneaky. Yo.

Beautiful!!! :)
I think I will be happy with my SWB-1 for quite a while, and now that the Pro is out, I feel like a snagged a bargain on the mahogany bass! :D The neck is so awesome on this one, but maybe a few seasonal changes will make me lust for a 5-piece neck.... but there's something in the "less is more" design of this bass that just appeals to me.

It's the Alembic I always wanted ;-)

That said.... I'm sure it sounds even better with the EMGs. :)

EDIT: or just I'm trying to talk my way out of the inevitable GAS that's coming.... that being said, there's a semi-hollow Chowny with my name on it somewhere in the future, too.... So maybe save up for that instead ;-)

The Deluxe basses look killer, especially the walnut. Unique colors and finishes seem to be a Chowny specialty.

But I'm not going to catch to buyer's remorse (or at least not a bad case) as the price/value for my 'plain' version is excellent. Really, $500 + shipping was about as much as I could justify for my level of play.

And who knows, in ten years maybe I'll have a 'rare early mahogany Chowny SWB-1.'

BTW my nearly 9 1/2 lb mahogany bass sits with the neck level, so if I somehow substituted a lighter body, pretty sure I'd get some neck dive, which would not be a good tradeoff.

Yours is officially the heaviest bass we've made for some reason. So it's rare and collectible for that alone ;-)

A walnut gloss would make them even more Alemic-ish. Why are the string holes in the back unevenly lined up?
And please make a medium scale version for the Deluxe....Then I would buy one again :)

True enough... Especially with a 5 piece neck. ;)
I guess the bridge units are mounted like that to reflect the fact that in standard tuning, normally the G string is a little shorter than the E. So makes sense to push the G and D units a little further forward.

I should avoid the GAS, I think, because the mahogany SWB is a great bass and I don't really see a need to replace it just to satisfy my need for eye candy.

That Semi-hollow, though...

If someone is interested; my SWB-1 passive natural ash is up for sale. It is brand new and with the case. So you can get a brand new bass for a good price and no waiting. Great bass but I don't like shortscale basses. Just send me a message (I am based in Europe).

Put it up in the classifieds here, I bet it'll get some attention. (And that way I can see pics of it.)

I'll revive this thread with just one tiny little note.

When I put a set of D'Addario Chromes (.45-.100) on my SWB-1, I had a problem with the E string. The 'wrapped' portion of the ball end would NOT go through the back. The others were fine, but the fatter E string just wouldn't go. I couldn't tell if it was the ferrule (the little metal tube that's countersunk into the back) or the corresponding drilled hole down from the top.

I temporarily put the E string through the bridge, but this set my OCD alarm to ringing pretty loud, and I would swear that the E didn't ring through like the other strings. Also, I noticed a dead spot on that string, at the Bb fret. Not a horrendous one, maybe half the level of 'deadness' that you get on a J style bass on the G string, but still there.

When I got a chance to at the bass with reading glasses and a light, I realized that the hole from the top didn't quite align with the ferrule. The difference was tiny, maybe a millimeter, but enough to prevent the fat wrapped string from fitting through. A few VERY careful seconds with a Dremel tool took care of the problem. And with the string going through the body, no dead spot, at all.

I continue to love this bass!

I own two shortscale 30in basses and both of them simply don't have that chime/ring when slapped, especially the e string it just sounds like a dull thud .

For anyone that owns one of these does the extra .75in make a difference? For instance my medium scale 32in basses sound perfectly fine when slapped, so I'm curious because I'm really searching for a shortscale that will finally let me play slap style with the same clarity of a full scale.
