SCR-1 Cool Rails in a Squire Bronco HELP!

I'm a newbie to installing pickups and I wasn't expecting to run into snags but her I am. i took out most of the old gut and replaced them with new ones (Pure Tone jack, 2 250k Solid shift pots, a new bridge and of course, the Cool Rail) After installing it as per the 1 volume, 1 tone, 1 humbucker setup on the Seymour Duncan website, I turned it on and noticed that my volume pot just doesn't do anything. The tone knob works just fine and i have no clue what to do. any help is greatly appreciated
