Double Bass Scroll design idea

I've often mused on the idea of building a bass or having one built for me, but the scroll is an important point of design that always eluded me. This evening I came up with something that's sufficiently weird and still possibly practical. This little guy has always been a favorite of mine:

Always wanted a carved scroll with this face on it:

Even my wife wouldn't have complained, saying when I mentioned it "well at least you have good taste". But I'll never be rich enough to spend the money on something like this just for looks.

Right, he called it a wentelteefje or curl-up.

I was thinking of the eyes as the points of the scroll volutes, but hatpegs would go well with that, and give the feet places to 'rest.'

This is a current work in progress.
But if I had the skill I’d prefer your choice.

Now, in the fully curled-up position this *does* look like a scroll.

I saw this on FB a few days ago...

carve the segmented pattern into the main scroll, leaving enough wood behind to create the legs in bas-relief along the sides (as opposed to sticking out to get broken off), then inlay jewels of some sort onto the points for the eyes

This would make an "Excellent" scroll carving...and, might encourage you to play the correct changes - in tune & in time.
