RIP Peter Cullen (aka Optimus Prime)

This week has been taking one hell of an emotional toll on me and everyone I know.

This week has taken Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, and now Peter Cullen (aka the OG Optimus Prime) from us. He was 85.

I knew they were all getting up there, but still... this is rough. Peter Cullen's death is a particularly rough one for me (and most anyone in my age bracket).

All that said, I love the brief statement that his family released:
They've asked his fans to "honour his remarkable legacy by serving your communities and leading others with compassion, integrity and loyalty and always remember 'be strong enough to be gentle.'"

My nephew, who is 29, posted about this on Facebook. He said, "this one hurt fr" He's part of the generation that grew up on the Transformers movies.

Optimus Prime and Peter Cullen transcended generations for sure.
(Yeah other actors have portrayed Prime in various incarnations of Transformers, but Peter Cullen is THE Optimus Prime).

I'm 48 and grew up with the 1980s Transformers cartoons. My dad (RIP) liked Optimus Prime and Transformers too. He wasn't around much when I was a kid (always traveling for work) but Transformers was how he connected to me.
