Pretty sure Circle of Tone did a Napalm Death / Scum breakdown on YouTube. He's very thorough. Frontline sounds familiar though and whatever it was would have been cheap.

Is the applause super distortion the same the frontline super distortion?

According to couple people the applause super distortion is the Korean version of the frontier super distortion few different parts but same circuit..

Jhs owner once said don't matter the parts if it's the same circuit..

I think could use more gain and a bass control.. Maybe a Hpf about 40hz

I figured I'd up date this tread.. Super distortion is a variation of the Ds-1..
I'm going to say this may get you closer to the super distortion if you have one

I know it's not the bass tone on 'Scum', but in more recent years, Shane talks about using the SansAmp GT2 for his grind. As he stated in this interview.

The Behringer GDI21, is an ultra cheap, but actually great. clone of the Tech 21 GT2.
Justin Chancellor from Tool use the GT2 too as a permanent pat of his setup.
Actually makes for a great bass distortion pedal.
And you can get a lot of different distortion sounds from it.

That Scum tone sounds like 2 pedals stacked, where it's much easier to get the fully blown out tone and muddy attack. I often hit that point when stacking fuzz pedals so recognise it.
OP - start by stacking whatever pedals you have on hand. Remember the 2nd pedal does the most tone shaping.

Try stacking a Behringer super fuzz (a close variant of the Shaftesbury duo) into a hm2.

Behringer make a Boss HM-2 clone as well, the Behringer HM300 Heavy Metal.

now on another record.. they used a hyperfuzz and a HM-2. but scum is the Superdistortion.. I need to grab a HM-2.. but no cash.. I did get a version the super distortion.. I have the Hyper fuzz for many years..
