Sea otters

I haven't seen any video footage of ferrets using stone tools.
They don't like anyone watching.... I lived with a couple of ferrets for several years back in the 80's and I can tell you they're intelligent enough and can use found objects as simple tools. They also exhibit some funny human traits, like hoarding useless objects they like. Ours had a fetish for Grolsch bottle caps and those little rubber rings. Found a whole pile of them when we moved the couch.
I've never seen a puppy or rat using a tool to open a clam, oyster, abalone. 
Yep they seem very much like cute little puppies of the ocean until you learn about these Otter gangs (disclaimer: very graphic wildlife video so I won’t post the link)

No, a Coypu (nutria) is a giant water rat. But Coypu are probably smarter, and would make better pets than an otter. It's sad that nobody cries out against the millions of Copyu who are slaughtered for their beautiful, warm, waterproof rat fur.
Ferrets are indeed very clever critters. They can be very strategic and are incredibly tenacious. Mine had a thing for hoarding bras and bass straps (amongst other things). He had a very clear idea of what belonged to him.They don't like anyone watching.... I thought this was going to be a new fretboard material to argue over.
