Seating an LMI dbl-action truss rod effectively

My question is which way does the truss rod go in, not how the channel is routed.

Does it go in like in the pic, or with the flat bar on the bottom?

Yes, it does go in like the pic.

an LMI rod will not fit a full half round channel. It has to be square at least where the nuts are on either end.
