Seawind, Al Jareau, And Michael Franks

I must be getting old because for New Years I downloaded a bunch of Old Michael Franks (Bassists Will Lee, Mark Egan and Jimmy Hislap) from the late 70's, Al Jareau's "Tenderness" (Marcus Miller) which sounds like a 70's album. And I bought Seawinds "Reunion" which is a reunion CD of one of the great bands of the 70's, think Steely Dan meets RTF, with a great female vocals and perhaps the most underrated bassist of the late 70's (Ken Wild). Listening to that old stuff recorded with modern recording gear is scary good. One thing I'm realizing is that most of the newer pop music leaves me cold in musicianship and composition. The thing that really grabs me is dynamics. Is it my imagination or do most modern CD's and bands have two dynamic levels? FULL ON and off?

Anyway the new Seawind "Reunion" CD KILLS. It's an import (I bought used) but it's worth every dime. Ken Wild hasn't lost a step, I really think he's one guy that was a truly underrated master. He's a guy who truly knows space, time and taste and yet has play over any changes chops.

I was on the same gig as Pauline Wilson a couple weeks back, I talked her ear off about how much I always dug Ken Wild's playing. She still sounds great, and is such a sweetheart!
I also always dug Wild's playing with Roland Vazquez back in the 70's.

Three of my favs. Wonderful music. I was a total fan of Seawind in particular WAY before it was cool.
Sad that Jarreau has passed. I think Franks is still around but he's gotta be pushing 80. Where has all the good music gone?
