So I said this thing wouldn't do Jaco. That was before I worked out the Z mode switching on the Audere preamp. I didn't think I would use the switch, so it's tucked away in the cavity for now. I had been playing on high z mode. It came alive on low Z.
Here's some sounds with the bass plugged straight into my phone.
First run is all 4 coils, the second with the outer coils in series (neck coil low passed), the third with the middle coils in parallel.
Three things to note
1) I have no recording skills whatsoever, and this isn't a great video. I know that.
2) The bass needs some setting up - note how dull my attempt at a harmonic on the G is. This is because the nut is string too low on the G string. I'd say overall the action is a little low and this became apparent listening back to the recording.
3) These pickups sound a little more dull in real life. The iPhone seems to make everything a little brighter.
4) I have some tidying up to do in my living room...
5) Things are less treble heavy and fatter with the Z mode switch at the other end.
Take this for what you will, but this was the best I could do to offer some insight into how she sounds. Perhaps Low End Lobster would like to make a visit down under and do a proper YouTube review of my creation
