Another vote for xotic EP booster. Got it thinking it would be a compact little clean boost pedal for solos. watching youtube videos of it with guys raving about how they couldn't turn it off, and based on the vids I didn't really hear it. But as soon as I had it plugged in, turned it on, played it for a while, then turned it back off I went "whoa!". It's pretty much stayed on ever since.

Still need a clean boost....

My always on for a touch of grit is the electro-harmonix hot wax with the hot tubes side set to low gain and the mix knob about 75%.

Really a different thing all together, love them both. I have a Mosky Xp , several in fact, that I really like the sound of.

I've played about briefly with the Chase Tone Secret Preamp and it was a definite winner.
I cannot remember the last time I played bass without one of these kinds of pedals involved in the signal chain.

i have the le bass preamp as well. i'm not a distortion guy as I'm a jazzer, but I absolutely love the warmth and sparkle I get from the tube. mine is always on....cold fusion mode. I also have an MXR dynacomp compression pedal that is also always on. that's my whole rig. I should add that I swapped out the stock tube on the le bass for a mesa boogie tube. big difference, still sounded good before but now it's much better.

By Chase Tone. Anybody have any experience with this pedal for bass?
It seems pretty cool for guitar and I dig the preamp taken from Echoplex thing...

I recently removed the SansAmp from my live setup and I'm looking for some nice pre-amp / always on kinda pedal...

Would happily hear any advice on similar things... looking at the Linden EQ and Boss CE-2... I know those are all completely different pedals but when it comes to these always on things I feel it's all different ways of looking at the same thing to some extent... I want something nice that just sounds really good and has very few options... I got more than enough EQ on amps...

P.S... By always I don't actually mean ***always in every situation for ever and ever***, but: for live, when you need that slight amount of grit/articulation/emphasis/magic spice or something without being all overdrivey.

I have a TC Electronic Spectracomp, a Le Bass, and a Broughton LHPF always on. Spectracomp is doing the "hyper-compressed/boosted lows, less compressed highs" thing. The Le Bass is in cold fusion mode, set for very mild grit on the B channel. The LHPF is in the loop of the Le Bass acting as a cab sim (the onboard one from the Le Bass is too dark).

Depending on the band I'm playing with, I may also leave my Broughton Terraformer on for a dirtier tone.
