Of course we used to play all kinds of rooms that were designed in the post-war era when two prong outlets were the norm, which means the third prong of my Sunn Concert Bass got clipped off and the show went on. There are adapters that should be used, but at the time "the show must go on".

I wouldn't go barefoot on stage, period. Outside of the obvious electrical hazards, there are shards of glass, cut offs or broken string pieces, lost pickguard screws, splinters, etc... that are waiting for your haphazard feet. In addition, many stages are gross with the build up of goo and such. Just gross.
Also gross is that most men have ugly feet since we don't really spend time making them look good. Cover them up.

Not quite true that gfi's didn't exist in seventies. Starting working const. In 68. Gfi were required as part of the code in 68. And requirements expanded. When were gfi's required in the music industry, I am not sure,

A friend posted a picture of himself on Facebook playing barefoot. I told him that was dangerous and he replied very negatively to me. I have seen a few amateur performers perform barefoot and it scares me. Another guy I know plays through a tube amp and he always plays barefoot.

If you know anything about tube amps or even solid state amps, then you know the high voltages in those things. Modern amps (or properly refurbished amps) have a 3 prong cord. The third prong is ground for safety DON'T EVER BREAK IT OFF! I would still recommend wearing shoes.

I wish I had played barefoot more in the past, instead of cramming my foot in some uncomfy dress shoe. But the bands I was in it was either slacks or nice jeans and a buttondown, or a suit.

AS a boy I used to spend a fair amount of time running round barefoot in the summers. I finally got tired of picking little slivers of glass out of my feet.

My nickname for some time was "the Barefoot Bassist." That's when I was younger and dumber. What was I thinking, playing barefoot at biker bars ... of course, I also wore shorts, so there's that.
