SEI OFFSET FLAMBOYANT 7 STRING - COMPLETED !!

Thanks to all of you for your kind words about my Sei 7 :hyper:

Do you tune it (low to high) B-E-A-D-G-C-F?

Yup, she's tuned exactly like that !! Cheers :D

Can you get a pic that shows of the LED's please.

Gaun yersel big man.A beautiful instrument!I can't fault it 'cept that I'd have liked to see the LEDs.

I took these this afternoon. It's only taking me about 8 attempts now to get 1 decent photo, so I'm getting better !!

Mark you are a wimp!:hiding:

29 and 7 strings is the perfect combination to completely hack off a guitarist:D

Matthew

I'll have you know that the 24/7 combination can still irritate the heck out of 'em :bassist:

Man, I love that. Scotland, eh...I can drive there and back in one night if I'm lucky. I must know, 7 String, do you own a dog, and how is your home security? :D ;)

Just kidding, enjoy that beauty!

He has a Rottweiler [puppy] so home security is taken care of or will be in a few months!

Matthew

Luna is a wee sweetie, although she can do serious damage to a Farley's Rusk (low sugar of course !!). Even if she's off her game our collie cross and labrador can lick visitors into submission :D

I'd thought I'd add to this post as the bass has changed a little since I've had it.

Despite really wanting to go the passive route, I wasn't getting the sound I was after. After really now knowing which way to go, I had a Schack 3-band eq installed by Sei HQ. The Shack has little dip switches hidden in the control cavity which select which frequency you want the bass/mid/treble to act upon. After a bit of experimentation and some advice from other Sei owners on how to set the Schack up, the bass sounds fantastic. Even better was the fact that it was only 2 more holes. One is regular size on a concentric pot, the other has a really tiny switch for the LEDS.

As ever, some more pics.

So a year or so has gone by and I have to say, I'm as excited picking up and playing the bass today as I was when I first laid hands on it. The bass just feel so right when I play it and it really is one of my life's ambitions fulfilled.

Sei Basses have a fantastic reputation and an incredibly loyal following. Little wonder as basses of this quality are rare indeed.

Thanks for the kind comments.

It's a stunning bass to play and I'm still trying to bring my playing up to the same level as the bass :D

The Sei 7 weighs around 9lbs. The 7 string which it replaced (and which I had converted to fretless) weighs 14lbs so it feels positively featherweight in comparison. The balance is also excellent thanks to the extended upper horn.

IMHO Sei basses are some of the finest money can buy. If any reader of this gets to London, be sure to make the effort to visit Sei HQ. As usual all things Sei can be found at www.seibass.com

I must get around to the soundclips thing at some point.

As you can see below, the neck really is a work of art. Not all Sei basses have full facings on the back as well as the front. On these 2 pics, you can see how seemlessly the transition from neck to facings has been executed.

All that and it sounds awesome as well :D

After a lot of thought, I decided to change the pickup and preamp in my Sei. I've replaced the Kent Armstrong pickup with another model from the same brand and taken out the Schack 3-band preamp. The result: a bigger rounder tone with a bit of a growl. Sounds fantastic either fingerstyle or with a pick.

This change meant that I went from 2 concentric pots to 2 regular pots with solid 1/4" shafts. I wanted some special knobs and that was hard to find. Eventually, I came across Q-Parts www.q-parts.com and with my wife's advice bought 2 gold, domed knobs with purple acrylic tops.
