Imo, Sei basses are up there with the very best.
The reason the build time is so long is because they have 2/3 builders max.
I believe the paint is not done in house anymore because that is such specialist work.

I'm guessing a new commission would be £3.5k and 15 months.

There's just two people there who do the actual building - Martin and John.

They've never done paint-based finishes in-house - they used to use Mick Dearing at Classic Finishes before he passed away, and, these days, SimS do all their paint-based finishes. They still do the oil-based finishes (for most of the natural wood basses) in-house.

Greetings - I just pulled the trigger on a SEI Flamboyant that was built for a bassist in the UK that had to sell her because of the dreaded taxman. It will arrive Thursday. Been looking forward to a SEI Flamboyant for years. First order of business after a proper setup with be contrast and comparison sessions with my other UK basses. A WAL Geddy MK2, an Enfield Cannon Custom, a Status Jazz, and of course the Flamboyant. Take care - WalView attachment 4497031

My bass arrived a week later than originally stated, Customs paperwork. What a hassle. The instrument is awesome, set her up and strung her with .30 - .70's. Glad I finally got a Sei. Been looking to find one for years.

Hey everyone, it’s been a bit quiet in here recently!

I’ve decided that I’m going to order myself a 6 string headless flamboyant.
They’re beautifully designed basses, sound great, and I love the idea of supporting Martin and everyone at the gallery - they’ve treated me amazingly well every time I’ve been in there, even when I was a broke teenager

I’m deciding on specs at the moment. I think I have pretty much everything nailed down but wouldn’t mind getting some of your opinions on string spacing. I’m used to playing with a 19mm spacing on my 5 but worry that could start to get uncomfortable when I move up to a 6. Anyone here have a Sei 6 string with 19mm spacing and would care to comment on how it feels?

Just purchased this Sei Flamboyant 4 string from the bass gallery. It's used but in mint condition. Plays & sounds amazing, probably the best bass i have ever played.

Hate to do the usual TB shuffle but anyway, I've a Wal pickup & pre loaded Flamboyant from thousands of years ago and it's the finest bass I've ever played. If you don't get on with this one please PM me first.

Haha Yea agree they are very underrated basses! I have been meaning to get one for years as I hangout at the Bass Gallery now and again but I got caught up in the old Jaydee / Status / Mark King fanboy scene haha

Imv, people trumpet build quality too freely, but Sei are up there with the likes of Alleva Coppolo.

I've tried some cheaper end Fodera's..the MG model, but it was still $6.5k iirc, and Sadowsky's so have a decent point of reference, imv.

I think there is quite a jump from a $3.5k bass to Sei and AC, ime

I'd still buy it back tomorrow if you were ever willing to sell...
