Select pickups by EMG or Golden Age

Neither. The select pups are not nearly as good as the much newer versions of EMG passives. Save up more money and get good pups rather then spending little but now for poor qaulity. Its also possible you could find some used pups by Dimarzio, Seymoiur Duncan etc via shops that do upgrades for peeps. Via buying pups taken out of customers basses for upgrades. Spending the $25 bucks for pups like EMG select is a waste of money imo. Their qaulity was mediocre in the 80's and just plain bad by todays standards. The cost so little cause their sound qaulity is so poor.

cheap pickups are a waste of money. use what's in there now until you can get a legit replacement.

you were looking at the cheapie golden age pickups for $45, but something actually "good" like a duncan vintage p-bass pickup can be had for $60.
