You don't need to downsize. (Edit: Does your grandma need a surgery? No? Carry on, then.)

Seventies-vintage "any guitar" are not investment vehicles but they are cool to have and often fun to play when you want to change things up. If you need to be talked into selling a bass, then you probably shouldn't be selling it.
