Sell My Nice Bass For A Cheaper One?

The weight thing would be a thing for me, but if it's not for you...

Like I said, every once in a while I think I don't need to have such a nice bass. Thousands of dollars that could be used somewhere else. But then I am reminded that it is the best playing, feeling and sounding bass I have tried - and it looks great as well. It's also a really light bass which is nice.

I tried a new Fender 5 jazz last weekend and I felt the weight from the get go. There's no way I'd play a bass that heavy.

Also, Stuart Spector is retiring. That may or may not have some effect on the quality or desirability of the brand. I'd hold on to that Spector. They're harder to come by whereas the market is full of Fenders.

The last two basses I've sold were 2x and 3x the cost of the bass I kept. No ragrets.

I’d base it on how the Spector impacts your musicianship. Does it inspire you to play and create or is it just a superb player/work of art with some sentimental value? Nothing wrong with either way but for me I’ll keep the one that inspires.

I almost did the reverse...selling a 78 P Bass in favor of a somewhat less expensive but sweet Spector Euro. But if you know you love what you have, don’t relinquish it unless your finances require it. As fine as the Spector was of an instrument, I made the right decision returning it to GC and keeping the hefty, wonderful Fender.

If you are even considering selling your Spector sounds to me you're not that attached.

I have one of the MIJ's and they are very nice. Unless it is pristine that is on the high side, IMO.

I have a ‘70s fender P bass. Just about original other than the nut and pots. For as good a player I am, I could sell it and find plenty of replacements for less and maybe no one listening would know the difference. She’s got a few imperfections s from life on the road. And today she may be as good as she’ll ever be. But I’d know I sold my trusted gal for a younger model with a little less buzz but a lot less soul.

I think I deserve the best, as long as she’ll have me. And I just don’t think money has any kind of value compared to the familiar curve of the neck and just right tuning keys. And even if I put on a few pounds, her body sits just as snug in my arms.

Save your money, sell your plasma, do what ever you gotta do (except steal from the band tip jar), but no reason to part ways with her.

We still talkin’ about a bass, right?

I've downgraded before when I needed the money. Usually at least some minor regret after the bills were paid off...

Never sell for this reason. Keep the better instrument. It's paid for and you will regret selling it.

I’d be surprised if you can get $2k for the Coda.

^^^ people usually over-estimate what their instrument is worth.

That said, depends on the details of the "pay off some other stuff..." comment refers to. Credit card debt is pretty toxic, I'd work with a lesser instrument for awhile if it meant getting out of that kind of debt.
