I suck, but nobody really notices
I've got a song that is a guaranteed hit. I mean like 100% gold or better. What do I do to get a label to buy it from me for a band on their label? 311 for instance. Just wondering if any of you guys have "songwriter" credentials and can point me in the right direction. Thank you.

It's not quite that easy. If it was, everybody and their brother would be doing it. They're not. Before you start perusing the Lamborghini website and looking for property in Beverly Hills, you do actually own the tune and the copyright for it, right? Do you have an agent and a publisher in place? How about your entertainment lawyer? Do you know anyone who can gain access to and interest from upper tier acts? At higher levels, labels and bands simply won’t even acknowledge unsolicited compositions from writers without legal representation and serious prior cred. Does this tune completely blow away anything independent writers like Max Martin, Dan Wilson, JKash, or Greg Kurstin are doing right now? Do you even know who those people are?

If the answers to any of these questions are “no”, you have to work your way up to the top of the food chain and get to work. Start local with artists in your area. If your writing is as strong and potentially successful as you say it is, and it generates verifiable hits that get a lot of attention and bandwidth in smaller markets, the big time players will beat a path to your door, guaranteed.
