serial number question

I would have to check Fender's website to confirm, but I believe that the Z prefix is for 2000-2009 USA made instruments, so Z0.... would be 2000, Z1.... would be 2001, etc. They started using the USA prefix in 2010.

The Z8 bass you're looking at would be a 2008. It's also possible that it is a 2009 bass manufactured in 2008. As far as I know, there have been no changes in the American Standard line since 2008. There were some more recent changes to the USA made Deluxe models, but I don't remember when that took place.
