I have been playing guitar, bass and keys for almost 40 years. I sometimes buy and flip basses, guitars and amps for a profit. One thing I have always been curious about is why many sellers block out the serial number on a instruments they are selling. Are they afraid that a potential buyer will claim that it was their's and was stolen? To me, hiding the serial number serves no purpose since the buyer will know the serial number as soon as the see the bass in person.

Part of the reason for this is to help deter counterfeiters who could then use a real, verified S/N on their instruments. PMing a potential buyer with the S/N helps keep it out of the public eye.

My Samick has no external serial. I bought it sceondhand in Feb 2014.
