Session Musician for touring!

Hi,

I was wondering if you can help me...

I was offered the chance to be a session musician for a european band which just signed a deal with a UK based Indipendent Label. I will eventually be touring with the band to promote the new album (internationally).

I do not have much details for now because according to the band the Indie Label will pay for my services, so they should be sending their offer soon.

This is something really new for me so I will need some guidance.

Questions:
1. How much shall I get paid?
2. What about equipment?
3. I got a day job, so what if I'll have to quit my day job?
4. Paid in advance?

As I said, I have nothing in my hands right now, but all these question are killing me I have no one to refer to....

I don't know how much you should get paid, but if it's anything, I'd quit my day job to tour Europe and internationally with a signed band! But your circumstances may differ.

It depends on what you mean by indie label; back in the day of major's you could expect a good (thousands) retainer and maybe a nice cheque to buy a new bass stack and a new potato shaped bass guitar.

Now a days not so much; an indie could afford to pay you a straight wage and not much else, you'd probably be on your own for gear.

1. Without knowing their budget, the size of their venues, the standards in your country, and ALL KINDS of other details, I have literally no idea what you should ask to get paid. So I'm not even going to touch that one.

2. Equipment is yours to bring to the talbe.

3. Quit your day job.

4. No, you don't get paid in advance. You usually get paid either weekly or every two weeks.
