Session Musician

Hey, this is my first time writing, my question is what is the best way to become a session musician. I know that theres never one way to do it, but what helps.

I am a junior in high school, and know thats what I want to do. I am going to a private music school in Idaho for Junior and Senior year. I got a $2500 talent scholarship. I would like to go to a music college.

Any advice helps, thanks oh and NIN was great at Sasquatch.

Well, if I was starting over again and wanted to be a session musician, I'd probably have a bit broader of a music education. When I was your age and older, I really just played in punk/alternative bands in garages, parties, and crappy clubs for years. That was fun, but it didn't set me up as ultimately as I would have liked.

I think I'd learn how to read really well.

And it's most supremely vital to just have a SICK and VERY BROAD record collection...and be able to play all of it. Hip-hop, rock, punk, indie, alternative, shoegaze, electro, funk, r&b, rockabilly, country, jazz, fusion, metal, pop, old standards, you name it. Do it all! Your education starts now with what you absorb from the great, endless cornucopia of music. No limits.

I don't know what else to advise you to do; other than the above, I just kind of fell into it with a passion.
