Double Bass Set-up advice

Hello Everyone,
I’m hoping for some advice. I have a ‘39 Epiphone B4. I have had extensive work done to it, including:
New adjustable bridge; tail piece wire; sound post; fingerboard shim; neck reset; endpin; strings (spiro weichs) etc..
It has wonderful tone on E;A;D -Lots of clarity and sustain. However, the G string sounds different to me- less sustain and somewhat muffled/choked. Every note on the G string sounds this way. The sound post is currently centered about 1 diameter distance below the treble foot of the bridge.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what the problem could be and how I could fix it? It’s kind of frustrating to play like this. Thank you very much!

I don’t know who your luthier was/is, but they would be the first person I would ask. It sounds like they did a lot work on this bass and would be the most knowledgeable. Just a thought.

I thought maybe string as well but I’ve tried different ones. Had the same result with spiro med G and helicore Hybrid G.
It just sounds softer/fainter and less sustain. Weird.

Twisted String? Loosen enough to see if the ball spins at the bridge end.

I’ll try that- But like I said it’s been the same with a few different strings.

If you can ask the luthier to try some adjustments that would be best.

This video shows the adjustment for weak violin E string (same position as bass G)

That would be my next thought.

Any ideas on which way to move the post?

tap towards the bridge will strengthen the d and g and also give a more crunchy focused sound
The edgar russ videos cover all of this
Most people get a luthier to do this

If
you're doing it yourself
Make sure you have a method to accurately measure where it is first
Both up down from the bridge and left right
Also mirror to see if it standing straight
Be very careful it can really change the sound and string balance for better or for worse , go slow small increments
Try not to let if move east or west if you are trying to go north ...
A coat hanger hook helps with this
